Bali's tallest waterfall and its most photographed temple in one day: the walk down to Sekumpul's seven falls in the north, and Ulun Danu Beratan on its lake at Bedugul on the way home.
Leave early and cross the mountains to the north side, where Sekumpul's falls drop 80 metres into a jungle amphitheatre. A village guide leads the walk down — 45 minutes of steps, a river crossing — to the base, a swim if you dare the cold, and the climb back. Lunch in the village, then Ulun Danu Beratan at Bedugul in the afternoon, the temple that seems to float on the lake. About eight to nine hours with your own driver.
Sekumpul is the waterfall people mean when they say 'Bali waterfall' — and it's the one that takes effort to reach, which is why it's still quiet. The walk is the price; the view from the bottom is what you paid for.
The lake temple afterwards is the calm-down: flat paths, a cool breeze, a coffee by the water while your legs recover. It's on the road home, so nothing is added but an hour.

Shoes with grip that can get wet (the river crossing is knee-deep after rain), swimwear, a towel, a dry bag, a change of clothes and sunscreen. A sarong for the temple is in the car.

Putu was at the hotel right on time. We had Banyumala with very few people around, then the twin lakes and a slow lunch looking over Jatiluwih. He read the weather and swapped two stops so the walk stayed dry. Exactly the day the page describes.
The solo price was explained clearly before I booked — no surprises. Ketut stopped whenever I asked for photos and knew which warung to pick for lunch. The ATV and rafting were booked through him so I only paid once.
Afternoon rain in the highlands, so our driver reordered the route and we did the temple first. Sarongs were in the car. Nothing felt rushed and we were back at the villa at the time he said.
