A small guest house in Dalung, North Kuta, a short drive north of Canggu — two wooden bungalows, each with a canopy bed, a brick bathroom with a rain shower, a kitchenette and a terrace; a shared rooftop pool; parking at the door. The street outside is an ordinary Balinese street — and that's the charm.
Timber walls and floor, a canopy bed under a mosquito net, warm lamps. The bathroom is exposed brick with a rain shower and a stone basin; the kitchenette has a two-burner stove, sink and fridge for simple meals and morning coffee. Rattan chairs on the terrace look onto the courtyard.

Setting expectations
A wooden bungalow, not a villa: one room, one bathroom, a small kitchen corner, a terrace. The rooftop pool is shared with the other guests and looks over tiled roofs and palms, not the ocean. Inside the compound there is a family temple — you may hear an offering being made in the morning. Outside the gate is a two-lane village road with warungs and scooters. It suits guests who enjoy a real neighbourhood. If you would rather stay in a resort area, our tours and driver days pick you up from there.

Jalan Cempaka No. 9, Banjar Cepaka, Dalung, Kuta Utara. Canggu's beaches and cafés are a short drive south; Seminyak, Kuta and the airport are further along the same roads. Ubud is a day trip, and the highlands of Bedugul and Jatiluwih are closer from here than from the southern resorts.

Rooftop pool at sunset, a temple ceremony in the courtyard one morning, scooters on the road outside. The bungalow is simple and spotless, the bed is huge, and the driver is literally next door. We loved it.
We booked three nights and two tours together. No pickup logistics — the car was parked outside the bungalow every morning. The kitchenette was enough for breakfast and the pool was ours most afternoons.
