West Bali without the crowds: Tanah Lot before the coaches, the rice roads and clove villages around Pupuan, and a black-sand beach at Balian where the day ends with surfers and a sunset.
Tanah Lot first, in the morning when the sea temple is nearly empty and the light is on the water. Then inland and up through Tabanan's back roads to Pupuan — terraces stacked up the hillsides, villages that dry cloves on the road, and a warung lunch with nobody else in it. Come back down to the coast at Balian, a black-sand surf beach with a river mouth and a handful of cafés, for a swim and the sunset. About eight hours with your own driver.
It's the west Bali that the main road misses. Pupuan's terraces are as good as Jatiluwih's, without a ticket gate; Balian is what Canggu was twenty years ago. The only reason it's quiet is that it's not on the way to anywhere.
Tanah Lot in the morning rather than at sunset is a deliberate choice — you have the paths to yourself, and Balian gives you a better sunset with your feet in the sand.

Putu was at the hotel right on time. We had Banyumala with very few people around, then the twin lakes and a slow lunch looking over Jatiluwih. He read the weather and swapped two stops so the walk stayed dry. Exactly the day the page describes.
The solo price was explained clearly before I booked — no surprises. Ketut stopped whenever I asked for photos and knew which warung to pick for lunch. The ATV and rafting were booked through him so I only paid once.
Afternoon rain in the highlands, so our driver reordered the route and we did the temple first. Sarongs were in the car. Nothing felt rushed and we were back at the villa at the time he said.
