The family day near Ubud: Bali Zoo's shaded paths and elephant feeding, the Sacred Monkey Forest, and a swim at Tegenungan waterfall — short drives, real toilets, and a driver who knows where the ice cream is.
A civilised 08:00 pickup, then Bali Zoo in Gianyar while it's cool: orangutans, elephants you can feed, a petting zoo and a small water park. Lunch in Ubud, then the Sacred Monkey Forest — a real forest with temples and several hundred macaques. Finish at Tegenungan waterfall for a splash, and home by four. About eight hours with your own car and driver, and the option to cut any stop short.
Everything on this route is within 30 minutes of the last thing, which with children is the whole game. The zoo is the safe bet for under-tens, the monkey forest is the one they talk about, and the waterfall is the reward at the end.
Your driver has done this day with a hundred families. He knows which entrance has the shortest queue, where the clean toilets are, and when to suggest going home.

08:00 rather than 07:00 — nobody wins with children at dawn. Ask for a child seat when you book.

From about five, with rules: bags zipped, nothing in hands, no feeding, hold hands. The monkeys are used to people and ignore calm visitors; they go for snacks and dangling sunglasses.
The zoo is smaller, shadier and closer — right for under-tens. Bali Safari is a bigger day with a tram ride and shows; better for 8+. We run that as a separate route.

Putu was at the hotel right on time. We had Banyumala with very few people around, then the twin lakes and a slow lunch looking over Jatiluwih. He read the weather and swapped two stops so the walk stayed dry. Exactly the day the page describes.
