The south coast in one afternoon and evening: Tanah Lot's sea temple, the cliffs and monkeys of Uluwatu, the kecak fire dance at sunset, and grilled seafood on the sand at Jimbaran.
A later start than our other routes — around midday — because the day is built around sunset. Tanah Lot first, walking the cliff path while the tide is out. Then the drive south to Uluwatu for the temple on its cliff, the monkeys, and the kecak dance in the open-air amphitheatre as the sun goes down. Finish at Jimbaran with a table on the sand and fish grilled to order. Back at your hotel around 21:00.
Uluwatu at sunset and dinner at Jimbaran are the two things every visitor to the south should do once, and they're twenty minutes apart. Adding Tanah Lot in the afternoon makes it a complete day without an early alarm.
The kecak — a hundred men chanting in a circle as the sky turns orange behind the temple — is the most atmospheric hour in Bali, and it sells out. We get the tickets and the good seats.

Sarongs are provided at both temples. A hat and sunscreen for the afternoon, a light layer for the sea breeze in the evening, and cash for the kecak. Keep glasses and phones zipped away at Uluwatu.

Only at low tide, and only to the base — the temple itself is for worshippers. Your driver checks the tide table; at high tide the view from the cliff path is the better one anyway.
They steal, they don't attack. Glasses, hats and phones out of reach, no food in sight, and you'll be fine. Your driver will remind you at the gate.
A grilled fish, prawns, rice, vegetables and a drink is usually Rp 250,000–400,000 a head at a mid-range beach restaurant. The ones your driver suggests show prices per 100 g before you order.

Putu was at the hotel right on time. We had Banyumala with very few people around, then the twin lakes and a slow lunch looking over Jatiluwih. He read the weather and swapped two stops so the walk stayed dry. Exactly the day the page describes.
The solo price was explained clearly before I booked — no surprises. Ketut stopped whenever I asked for photos and knew which warung to pick for lunch. The ATV and rafting were booked through him so I only paid once.
Afternoon rain in the highlands, so our driver reordered the route and we did the temple first. Sarongs were in the car. Nothing felt rushed and we were back at the villa at the time he said.
