The clearest water in Bali, at the far north-west corner of the island: a boat from Pemuteran to Menjangan Island for two snorkelling stops on the wall reef, lunch on the beach, and the quiet bay afterwards.
Leave the south very early — it's three hours to Pemuteran — for a boat across to Menjangan, the uninhabited island in West Bali National Park. Two snorkelling sessions on the wall: coral gardens in ten metres of visibility, turtles, reef fish, the drop-off into blue. Lunch on the island beach, deer wandering past. Back to Pemuteran's bay for a last swim or a coffee, then the long drive home. A twelve-hour day door to door, or better, a night in Pemuteran.
Menjangan is the one place in Bali where the snorkelling matches Komodo or the Gilis — a protected wall reef with no current and no crowds, because it's a long way from everywhere. Pemuteran, the fishing village opposite, has restored its own reef and is the calmest bay on the island.
We run it as a day from the south because people ask, but we'll always suggest the overnight: three hours each way is a lot of car for four hours of water.

Yes — Pemuteran has dive shops that run Menjangan as two dives. Say so and we book the dive boat rather than the snorkel boat.
Day one: drive up via Bedugul with a stop at the lake temple, afternoon in the bay. Day two: Menjangan in the morning, drive home after lunch. Two driver days, one quote.
Confident swimmers from about eight love it — the reef is shallow near the island and the boat crew are careful. Small children and non-swimmers get a long day for a beach.
