Pupuan comes from the Balinese word “pupu” which means “thigh”, because it is located on the “thigh” of Mount Batukaru. The name Pupuan also comes from the word “plupuhan” which means “puddle”, because its position is surrounded by highlands, so it looks like a puddle. Pupuan is an area with great potential for development in the fields of agriculture and plantations, because apart from the fertile land, the rainfall is quite high and the area consists of quite extensive agricultural land and plantations. Pupuan is also famous as a Robusta coffee producing area in Bali. Since January 30th 2017, Pupuan Robusta Coffee has received a geographical indication certificate (GIS) from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights because it has characteristics that are not found anywhere else.
